Fifteen minutes ago, Constitutional Carry (SB-319) passed the House Rules Committee (the final committee) and is headed to the Floor! Based on what we are hearing right now, we expect a Floor vote on this bill yet this afternoon!!!
As has been the case all session long, this only happened after gun owners from across the state slammed that committee with thousands of emails demanding action on this bill.
We are closer than ever to making Georgia the nation’s 25th Constitutional Carry state, but we are entering a very dangerous time in this fight.
Speaker Ralston knows that gun owners want to pass this bill. And he may very likely tell the Senate that he’s going to hold Constitutional Carry up in the House, unless the Senate agrees to amendments, using the pressure of the clock to try to force their hand.
It’s an old trick, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be successful.

There are a variety of harmful amendments that we need to be on guard against, and that would greatly weaken the impact of Constitutional Carry law here in Georgia.
>>> Ralston may try to force a residency requirement onto the bill, limiting its benefit to Georgians, and ensnaring unsuspecting gun owners who travel through our state.
>>> Ralston may try to force a ‘duty to notify’ requirement onto the bill, forcing gun owners to notify the police that they are carrying a firearm, which could lead to unnecessary and confrontational situations with law enforcement.
>>> Ralston may try to force a requirement onto the bill that would change Georgia law and allow gun owners to be detained (by force) by law enforcement to make sure you are not a ‘felon in possession’ of a gun.
These are just a handful of the ways that Ralston may try to weaken this bill at the last minute. That’s why you need to contact your State Representative today and tell him that you expect him to oppose ALL amendments on Constitutional Carry!

And if your State Representative writes you back in some arrogant tone of voice about how the House doesn’t do amendments on the floor this time of year, remember, they can change their rules and do anything they want, any time they want.
So don’t relent.
